Frequently Asked Questions

How does Hearby work? +
Hearby uses your location to show you what music people around you are currently listening to. When you enable location services and music sharing, nearby Hearby users can see your currently playing song, and you can see theirs. This creates a real-time map of musical activity in your area.
What music services does Hearby support? +
Hearby currently integrates with Spotify and Apple Music. You'll need an active subscription to these services to share your music activity. We're working on adding support for more music platforms in future updates.
Is my exact location shared with other users? +
No, your exact location is never shared. Hearby only shows your general area (like neighborhood or district level) to nearby users. You can control your location sharing preferences in the app settings and turn off location sharing at any time.
Why can't I see any music activity around me? +
This could be due to several reasons: 1) There may not be other Hearby users actively sharing music in your area, 2) Your location services might be disabled, 3) You might be in a low-activity area. Try visiting busier locations like cafes, universities, or entertainment districts where more people might be using the app.
Can I control what music I share? +
Yes! You have full control over your music sharing. You can turn sharing on/off anytime, choose which playlists or songs to share, and set your profile to private. You can also pause sharing temporarily without logging out of the app.
How do I connect my Spotify or Apple Music account? +
Go to Settings in the Hearby app, tap "Connect Music Service," and choose either Spotify or Apple Music. You'll be redirected to authenticate with your music service account. Once connected, Hearby can access your currently playing music to share with nearby users.
The app is using too much battery. What can I do? +
Location services can impact battery life. To optimize battery usage: 1) Reduce location update frequency in settings, 2) Turn off sharing when not needed, 3) Close the app when not in use, 4) Update to the latest version which includes battery optimizations.
How do I delete my account? +
To delete your account: Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This will permanently remove all your data, including your profile, music history, and connections. This action cannot be undone. Alternatively, you can contact our support team for assistance.
Is Hearby free to use? +
Yes, Hearby is completely free to download and use. You'll need your own subscription to Spotify, Apple Music, or other supported music services to share your music activity, but the Hearby app itself has no subscription fees.
